• Rat Droppings – They can resemble a large grain of rice.
• Scratching Noises – Rats in your roof?  Scratching noises at night from above may suggest rats are living in your roof.
• Footprints (running tracks) – Try leaving flour or talc powder in suspected areas. Come back in the morning to see if there are any foot prints.
• Damage – Rats have teeth that grow continuously, so they  gnaw on wood and plastic. They have been known to cause fires by chewing through electrical cables. You may also notice ripped food packaging, as rats tear open food, leaving visible teeth marks.
• Nests – Rats build nests in warm, hidden and dark places using shredded matter such as newspaper and fabrics. Nests will often contain baby rats and are located close their food source. Check behind and under fridges and freezers in or near your kitchen.
• Burrows – Brown rats are well known for burrowing for shelter, food storage and nesting. Look for burrows in composts, under decking or garden sheds, or in garages.
